Edo Muric was driving to the basket with a minute left in the second quarter when his right knee suddenly caved in. The player immediately collapsed to the ground. The team later announced that the forward tore his ACL.

Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana won the Slovenian League (SKL) on Saturday after defeating Helios Suns in the final series by a result of 3-1. However, sad news reached both the club and the country’s national team.

With just over a minute left in the first half, Cedevita Olimpija’s Edo Muric was driving to the basket when his right knee suddenly caved in. The player immediately collapsed to the ground.

After the clock was stopped, Muric was attended to by the team’s medical staff and was ultimately helped off the court.

The next day, the club announced that Muric tore the ACL of his right knee. Knowing the recovery period of such an injury, it is certain that the forward will not be able to help the Slovenian national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

“The situation is far from good, my knee turned,” Muric said after the match before the diagnosis was announced. “We’ll see what happens, but I suspect the worst and I’m ready for it. I’m sure there’s a tough challenge ahead of me, but I’m not afraid of it, it’s part of life. I’ll do everything so that I will come back even better and stronger. I try to stay positive now and take this as a challenge with both hands and get the best out of it.”

“At the moment, I’m not even thinking about the future. My only concern right now is about me and my injury,” the player told. “I hope to start rehabilitation as soon as possible and start my recovery so that I can be ready to play as soon as possible. It’s really hard to concentrate at the moment after my season ended the way it did.”

In 12 minutes of playing time, Muric managed to score 4 points and dish out 2 assists for 7 PIR.

Last September during the EuroBasket 2022, Muric was a notable role player in the Slovenian national team, averaging 17.2 minutes of playing time on the court and averages of 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 PIR.
