Almost 99% of The Adult Population Has Been Vaccinated Against Coronavirus in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE,  Almost 99% of adult citizens of Tajikistan have been vaccinated against coronavirus infection. This is more than 5 million people, Navruz Jafarov, head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Safety, Emergencies and Emergency Medical Assistance of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic, told TASS on Saturday.

In Tajikistan, more than 5 million people have been immunized against the COVID-19 coronavirus infection, which is 98.9% of the country’s adult population,” the source said. He specified that a booster dose of vaccination is currently underway – 97% of citizens over 18 the third dose of the vaccine, more than 82% – the fourth.

“To prevent coronavirus infection in 2022, more than 10 million Moderna, AstraZeneсa, CoronaVac, Pfizer vaccines were imported to Tajikistan, and since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 21 million doses of vaccines have been imported,” Jafarov added. According to him, since February 18, 2022, no new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the republic.

The first cases of coronavirus infection in the country were detected on April 30, 2020. Over the entire period of the pandemic in the republic with a population of more than 10 million people, more than 17 thousand infected people were detected, 124 people died from complications caused by the infection. From March 15, 2022, the Republican Anti-Covid Headquarters canceled the mandatory mask regime, as well as restrictions on weddings and other celebrations and ceremonies. And from February 8, 2023, all anti-COVID restrictions that were in effect at the border crossings of Tajikistan were canceled.
