Kosovo PM Faces Criticism Over Sex Education Guidelines

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused critics of spreading “manipulative propaganda” over the introduction of sex education guidelines for schools. The issue has sparked heated debate among socially conservative MPs and commentators.

In a video addressed to parents, Kurti denounced what he called “wild propaganda” aimed at misleading the public. He said opponents are falsely presenting themselves as “guardians of the family” while attacking the educational initiative.

The controversy centers on three teacher manuals that outline sex education for students aged 6 to 18. These handbooks provide guidance for grades 1 to 12 and aim to address a range of topics related to sexual health and awareness.

Criticism of the guidelines erupted on November 11 when MP Eman Rrahmani publicly alleged issues with their content. This has since fueled a political backlash, with opponents questioning the appropriateness of the material.

Kurti’s defense highlights the government’s commitment to improving education, despite resistance from socially conservative factions. The debate underscores broader tensions between progressive reforms and traditional values in Kosovo’s political landscape.
