European Investment Bank
February 6 (SeeNews) – EIB Global, part of the European Investment Bank (EIB) said it has unlocked 76 million euro ($82 million) to further support the modernisation of Serbia’s education system and water transport infrastructure.
A total of 45 million euro will go towards two education projects, including a 40 million euro loan that will be used to build, renovate and equip educational facilities, EIB Global, the bank’s arm devoted to activities outside the European Union, said in a press release on Friday.
An additional 5 million euro complements the 65 million euro EIB loan signed in 2020 for improving digital capacities and skills in over 1,500 schools across Serbia.
Following a 100 million euro loan signed in 2018, the EIB has now unlocked a further 31 million euro to improve waterway navigation along the Sava and Danube rivers and make it more efficient, the bank said.
“Additional funds allocated to inland waterway infrastructure will help increase the navigability, efficiency and capacity of river transport along the Rhine-Danube Corridor, a pivotal inland route for the region and Europe,” said Lilyana Pavlova, vice-president responsible for EIB activities in Serbia
